Today my Merry Meet Cowl was dry and ready to come off the blocking wires. I gazed at it lovingly. I took pictures before I unpinned it. I caressed it. I gloated.
Then I tried it on.
It’s not long enough to work as a cowl the way I intended it too. I suspect that a more experienced designer than myself would have realized it wasn’t going to work before they even pinned it to the blocking mat. Alas, I’m still fairly new to this whole pattern design thing.
For a few minutes I thought, maybe I’ll fold it in half, seam the edges, and make a purse. But no. If I do that, I’ll lose the beauty of all those flowing lines.
So I’ll be ripping back to the buttonholes and adding another repeat of the cable motif. And I’ll be sighing a lot. But it will be worth it. I hope.
When I first started charting this pattern, I called it “The Knit of Insanity.” I would like to ask the knitting gods to stop taking me so literally.
Good thing I didn’t use up all that “leftover” yarn yet . . .
