February thus far has been dark and stormy; in all honesty, I’ve enjoyed having a good excuse to stay home and embroider while watching reruns of Castle with my sweetie. But the low light has made getting decent product photos almost impossible, so this week I’m researching lighting and light tents. And by “I’m researching” I mean I’m getting my girlfriend to compare kits on the internet for me. In more interesting, crafty news . . .
After my frustrations with the cowl I was working on, I didn’t feel like knitting for a while; but last week I dipped my toes back in, working on prototypes for simpler patterns.
And over the weekend I took a break from buttons and ribbon to play with a larger project.
I’ve had this bit of cotton batik fabric tucked away in a drawer for years while I tried to decide what to do with it. I can’t remember why I didn’t buy more of it; maybe it was a remnant and this was all that was left in the store? But in any case, I was looking through my fabric drawer Saturday and came across it, and thought it would make a fun wall hanging with the right stitching. So I selected some colors from my random box of embroidery floss and started playing with it.
I’m having fun using the pattern on the fabric to guide my stitching. And the bright purple is a nice contrast to all the wind and rain and gray outside.
I did some more button jewelry experiments too, but nothing I can show you pictures of yet. Maybe next time!
My goals for the coming weeks are figuring out where to get business cards made, filling out the shop policies section and the “about” page for the Etsy shop, and making more bookmarks.
Now back to the embroidery . . .
