I didn’t do any embroidery this weekend. Or any knitting, or any sewing. Instead I walked on the beach at Oceanside, Oregon, picked up stones, and took pictures.
I took a bunch of projects with me, and I even took one out of the bag and thought about working on it. But it was vacation, and I decided to just take the time off completely.
But of course, there’s no such thing as a total vacation. I never shut off the part of my brain that turns everything over and over, considers everything from multiple angles, and transforms it into creative fodder. I spent the whole weekend turning the view into color palettes and texture studies.
The light was bright but the sun was low, making for a lot of glare–and not making for the best photo opportunities. At least not for my level of skill. But I was excited to catch the light shining through the sides of this shell that had washed up on the beach.
Once again I was that lady crouched in the wet sand taking pictures of things. At least at the beach I’m not usually the only one. And I can’t wait to play with the new colors and textures floating around in my head.
