My regular walk through the neighborhood almost always takes me to Columbia Park.
Just over 37 acres, and bordered on one side by a busy street, Columbia park somehow maintains an almost enchanted landscape.
Or perhaps a Narnian one, with all the lamp posts.
The fairy tale architecture and graceful trees share space with tennis courts, sports fields, and a swimming pool. I walk a route that takes me through the fanciful parts of the park and mostly avoids the sports.
It also helps to keep my eyes on the grass, looking for tiny mushrooms in winter and violets in spring.
It’s good to take the little sideways paths, that lead to picnic tables frequented by hungry squirrels, or to a children’s play area with giant flowers that spray water in the summer. Magic is everywhere.
